Obituary for William "Wild Bill" Sawyer

William “Wild Bill” Sawyer, age 54, of Bear, formerly of Elsmere, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

Bill worked as a technician for many years at Meineke's of New Castle County and Midas of Aberdeen, Maryland.

Bill loved watching NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart. He was very active and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Bill will be remembered for his personable, hardworking and giving nature. He continued that in death through the gift of life organ donation program.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth “Mae” Sawyer.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Ida Sawyer; his sons, William Sawyer, Jr. (Marian) and Christopher Sawyer (Brittany); his grandchildren, William Sawyer, III., Christopher Sawyer, Jr., Cameron Sawyer, Joseph Raymond, David Raymond, Destiny Raymond, and Trinity Raymond; his brother, Raymond Sawyer; and his cousins, Lloyd “Buddy” Sawyer and Rhonda Sawyer.

Funeral Services will be 12 noon on Friday, June 1 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis Street, Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home to assist with the funeral expenses.
