Obituary for Walter A Topor

Walter A. Topor, age 77, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, with family by his side.

Walt was born in Jamestown, New York and was a long-time resident of Wilmington, most recently living in Frederica.

Walt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He liked sports but especially was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills. He enjoyed cooking and made a mean spaghetti sauce. Walt loved going to casinos with his sister Georgianna and dragging their sister Franny along.


Walt was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Pamela, in 2007 and his sister Charlene Komisars in 2013.

Survivors include his daughters Cathy Smithmeyer and her husband Mark and Lisa Rayburn (Dan Ortega); his son Walt Topor, Jr. and his Fiancé Brooke Briggs; his step-son Chad May and his wife Jennifer; his brother Ron Topor and his wife Mary Ellen; his sisters Georgianna Kaylor and Francine Johnson and her husband Gary (Walt’s friend and partner in crime); his 10 grandchildren Stacy, Amanda, Robert, Anthony, Isabella, Savannah, Ethan, Owen, Aiden and Avery; 6 great-grandchildren Misa, Kristina, Leo, Jason, Emma and Maria; cousins and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2PM on Friday, July 20 in the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
