Michael Cormier, age 68 lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, June 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Donna C. Cormier (nee Sirianni) who passed in August 2016; his son Michael Jason Cormier in 2013 and his father, Jean Marcel in 2009.

Michael is survived by his son Brandon (Rosa), his mother, Vera and brothers Jean Marie, Claude (Susanne), Alex and sisters Annie (Lane), Michelle (Jimmy) and Jacqui (Bill) and his nieces and nephews Gigi, Nicole, Maria, Rebecca, Simone, Jason, David, Jean-Claude, and Noah.. Also surviving is his first wife, Terry and his stepson, Matthew and his late son’s Michael’s children, grand daughters Dominique and Taylor and grandson Michael. He also leaves behind Donna’s honorary family, Mathew Mayo (Frankie) and children Chris, Olivia and Devin, great-grandchildren, Nick, Lucas and Cameron as well as Mathew’s brothers Mike, and Myles.

Born in Chateaudun, France, Michael emigrated to the United States with his parents and 3 siblings (Jean Marie, Claude, Annie) when he was 7 years old. Michael was a graduate of Mastbaum High School and was drafted into service for Vietnam. Before deployment he became a naturalized citizen and served his country with the Ghost Riders of the 101st Air Mobile, United States Army based at Camp Evans with rank SP4. Upon his discharge he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Bronze Star. He returned stateside and married Terry in 1975 and they had their children, Michael and Brandon. Circumstances of life but remaining friends Terry and Michael divorced. Michael met his soul mate, Donna and they had many adventures in life especially with their dear friends Maryanne and Victor. Not having children of their own, they looked after the Mayo family boys and nephew Andy Sirianni and extended Sirianni relatives. They enjoyed very much their furry children Jack and Scooter their Jack Russell terriers.

Michael was a tradesman for many years both in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida. His wonderful stone and tile work are a testament to his many talents. He worked at the American Legion as well as Holiday Inn. He was also employed with a charity for US Service members during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and packed and shipped thousands of care packages. Before retirement he was a security guard at the IRS in Philadelphia. After his wife Donna’s cancer diagnosis in 2015, Michael was her devoted caregiver up until she passed at their Bridesburg home. Michael enjoyed his retirement with RV trips and fishing as well as watching the Phillies and the amazing Eagles Super Bowl winning season of 2017. He loved watching his son Brandon play softball.

The family would like to thank the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Rittenhouse Hospice for Michael’s care as well as Penn Hospital for Donna. Michael and Donna were very generous and giving persons who will be greatly missed by all of us who loved them.

Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral services with military honors for Michael on Tuesday, July 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware where he will be interred with his beloved wife Donna. The family will be hosting friends and family for a luncheon at Schaefers Canal House 208 Bank Street, Chesapeake City, Maryland immediately following the service until 4:00 p.m.
