Age 69, of Newark, DE, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 18, 2008.
Alan was born and raised in Marshallton Heights, the son of the late A. York Smith, Sr.and Ella Mackinson Smith.
Alan retired from PNC Bank after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of Millcreek Fire Co., and the New Castle One Hundred Archery Club. When he was young, Alan enjoyed spending time with his maternal grandparents in Hockessin. He loved the Phillies, Eagles and the University of Delaware football team.
Besides his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his sister, Maryruth Purnell and brothers, A.York Smith, Jr. and Andrew Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia A. Scott of Charlottesville, VA; Kathryn S. Meeks and her husband Robert of Newark, DE; Ellen M. Dobos of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Virginia S. Moore and her husband Clifford of Elkton, MD; and Elizabeth E. Presley and her husband Willie of Concord, NC. Alan is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11am, on Wednesday, July 23rd at St. James Episcopal Church in Stanton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Alan's memory to either St. James Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Road, Millcreek Hundred, Wilmington, DE 19808; or Millcreek Fire Co., 3900 Kirkwood Hwy., Marshalton, DE 19808.
