Allan H."Big Al" Driscoll
Age 75, of Wilmington, peacefully left this world for the next, on Thursday, August 13, 2009 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Al served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from Sylvan Coin/Mr. Kleen Laundromats. Al was a dedicated member of the Newark Moose Lodge, a member of Atterbury VFW, the Elks Club and St.Gabe's in New Castle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, taking care of his yard and spending time with family and friends.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Henry George and Ellen Monroe Driscoll and his beloved pets; Dolly and Brutus. He is survived by his daughters; Lisa M. Driscoll and her fiancé James D. Truett, Jr. and Diane Driscoll; his siblings, George Driscoll (Pat), Jean Nichols (James), Robert Driscoll (Virgina), Daniel Driscoll (Rita) and Brenda Cain; and the two who meant the world to him, his grandsons Cody Allan and Dillon Albert Driscoll.
Al's family wishes to extend sincere thanks to his truest of friends for being there with and for him thru this journey, to Meals-on-Wheels, to Heartland Hospice and to the Oncology Department at the VA Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 7pm on Monday, August 17 at NICHOLS-GILMORE Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 5:30pm. Burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions in Al's memory to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
