Age 78 of Stanton, beloved mother and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 15, 2012 following a battle to which she refused to surrender.
Barb, as she was know to many of her friends and colleagues, spent her life in compassionate service of others as a nurse, a true health care professional. Born to Beatrice and Benjamin Hammond, she grew up in Georgetown and Rehoboth, graduating from Rehoboth High in 1952.She entered the professional nursing program of the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and, following graduation in 1955, embarked on a rewarding career in nursing, both in hospital settings and as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse for the DuPont, General Motors, Globe Union, Atlantic Aviation and Johnson Controls companies. Her passions were dancing, family and travel.
Barb is survived by her loving sons, Brian, Brett and Brooke; her daughter-in-law, Kate Barney; her beloved grandchildren, Evan and Carla; and her brother and his wife, William Glenn and Mary Jane Hammond their families and all of her friends, whom she dearly loved.
Services will be at St. James Episcopal Church, 2 S. Augustine St., Newport, DE on Tuesday, March 20th at 1:00pm. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
