Bascom “Sonny” F. Steele, Jr., age 76, of North East, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Born in McComas, WV on August 10, 1945, he was the son of the late Bascom F. Steele, Sr. and Effie P. (Taylor) Parag. Sonny worked in Human Resources for the Congoleum Corporation in Marcus Hook, PA. Following his time at Congoleum, he worked as a real estate agent for 18 years, and after retirement, worked part-time at Walmart and Martin’s Grocery Store.
After high school, Sonny joined the Army National Guard of Delaware, where he served his full enlistment of six years. He was also a member of the American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 in Rising Sun, MD.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, and sadly, the eldest sibling, his sister, Vera Jean Aaron, joined him moments later.
He is survived by two sisters, Deborah J. Morris and Beverly Diana Fooks (Jack); two sons, Mark A. Steele and Michael A. Steele; three grandchildren, Colton V. Steele, Blake A. Steele, and Dylan M. Steele; aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Nichols Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E Justis Street, Wilmington, DE 19804. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
