Dick passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
Dick retired from Verizon, formerly Diamond State Telephone Company, in 1988 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and volunteered with the Cub Scouts, Cub Pack 88 and the Boy Scouts Troop 97. Dick was one of the initial members of Calvary Presbyterian Church. He was a lifetime member of Minquas Fire Company, where he held many offices and achieved the title of Treasurer Emeritus. Dick was also a member of Five Points Fire Company.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Doris Whiteoak Kelly in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his half brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Harriet Varner; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jim LeSage; his brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Ruth Kelly and his brother-in-law, Howard Shaeffer.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Eleanor Kelly and Barry and Maryann Kelly; his five grandchildren, Kevin Kelly (Heather), Karen Napoli (Vince), Dana Taylor (Brett), Lauren Samples (Adam) and Caitlin Kelly; his eight great grandchildren, Logan, Makayla, Landon and Mackenzie Kelly, Gabrielle and Joshua Napoli and Avery and Cameron Taylor; his sister, Glorianne Shaeffer and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing for family and friends will be held at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE on Wednesday, June 17 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be 11 AM on Thursday, June 18 at the funeral home with additional viewing beginning at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. DuPont HWY, New Castle.
