Carl Richard Houser of Claymont, DE passed away at age 57 after a diagnosis of metastatic liver cancer on March 21, 2022. We are grateful to the staff who took excellent care of him at Christiana Hospital and Seasons Hospice.
The consensus from the people that knew and loved him best described him as a “big kid at heart.” Carl was simple, full of optimism and good spirit through the trials and tribulations he faced. He had a non judgmental, kind, and forgiving heart . He was always able to articulate how he felt by wearing his heart on his sleeve. He was compassionate to the less fortunate, even when he was down on his luck many times. He didn’t have much, but showed his love through words of affirmation and support where he could give it.
Throughout his life he enjoyed all things outdoors; sports, biking, fishing and being on a boat or at the beach. He had hoped to live out his days doing just that, but unfortunately his time was cut short. He loved Queen and classic rock. He was artistic and enjoyed drawing. As a child and teenager he enjoyed playing baseball as a pitcher.
My dads final piece of advice was to travel and live life to the fullest while cherishing the simple moments in life.
My dad struggled with addiction for much of his life, those who knew my dad, know that about him. In the last few years, his health problems caught up with him and he learned how to live life differently.
He is survived by his daughter Heather (Brandon) Bahel and granddaughter, Tierney. Nicholas Scarangelli III, who was like a son to him. A few lifelong friends who were there til the end. His brothers: Keith, Eric (Denise) and Mark and his mother, Maggie of Claymont. He’s preceded in death by his father, Harold “Dutch” Houser.
