Carl passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014.
Smitty worked many years for both Gulf Oil Company and driving school and tour buses for Gregg's Bus Company. He was a a WWII Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Kidd in the South Pacific and was a member of the American Legion Stahl Post #30. Carl was an avid sports fan and for many years he coached Babe Ruth and American Legion teams. He was a dedicated fan of University of Delaware football as a season ticket holder for over 40 years.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Tressie and Leroy Smith, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ida; his children, David Smith and his fiancee Jennifer Swiderski, Lynn Scott and her husband Michael and Sandy Finley and her husband Jim; his brothers, Leroy Jr and Eddie and sister Nedra.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Somerford Place Assisted living and Seasons Hospice.
