Age 73, formerly of Newport, DE, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Citrus Springs, FL.
Born in Wilmington, DE, Charlie was the son of the late Charles W. and Florence Carden.
Charlie served in the US Army and played minor league baseball. He was a steadfast fan of the Eagles, Phillies and Blue Rocks. He was an avid reader, collector and enjoyed all kinds of crossword puzzles and mind teasers. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Avisun and, following its closing, held various retail positions in the Wilmington area. After moving to Florida he worked at the Citrus Springs Cumberland Farms, retiring in early May.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Doris Carden in 2004. Survivors include his step-daughter, Ardean Phillips and her husband Philip of Newark;foster daughter, Donna Crumley of Smyrna, DE; grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael and his wife Noelle, Katherine and her husband, David; Tanner and Chase; and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Friday, May 28th at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE, where visitation will begin at 10am. Burial will follow at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Newport, DE.
