Charles T. Crowder, age 66 of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2006.
Born in Philadelphia, April 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles T. Crowder, Sr.& Sarah German Crowder Gonnella Sandbach. Charles graduated from Springfield High School with the class of 1958 and the Printing Management School at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA in 1962. With his parents, he operated Photo Color, Inc., a color separation business. When Photo Color was sold in 1980 he became CEO of Pioneer Lithoplate, Co. in Lancaster, PA. In 1984 he was employed with the Dupont Co. in Wilmington, DE as a Technical Speciallist & later as a Technical Manager in the Imaging Systems Division. While at DuPont he traveled extensively nationwide. He also traveled through out Europe, South America, Eastern Asia & Australia. He was excessed from Dupont in 1994 and later that year the division was sold. Mr. Crowder sold vehicles for 5 years & his last employment before retirement was as a manager in the Statement Printing department of MBNA in Ogletown, DE.
He served on the Jaycees of NCC during the 1960's and volunteered for the McDonald's Championship LPG Tournament for 18 years with his wife. During the last 4 years volunteering at the yearly Championship, he
Co-Chaired the Leaderboard Committee with his wife, Nancy, managing close to 100 volunteers during tournament week. Charlie, as he was known by his friends, had a passion for golf, snow skiing, and in his youth was a camp counselor at the Boy Scout Camp-Camp Delmont. He was a voracious reader, embraced the computer, focusing on teaching himself to write programs for the projects he was assigned while at Dupont. Charlie took great pride and enjoyed maintaining his lawn and enjoyed woodworking. He built 6 pieces of furniture; a toy box, step stools, doll high chair, cradle and a table & 4 chairs for his grandchildren. His most ambitious project was designing & constructing a new pine doors and drawer facings for the kitchen cabinets in his home. He was accomplished at anything he attempted whether it be playing the trumpet in his high school marching band, carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring or computing.
His father, Charles T. Crowder, Sr. preceded him in death in 1982. Mr. Crowder is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Nancy McVey Wood Crowder; his mother, Sarah Sandbach; his children, Connie B. Cooper & husband Doug, Charles T. Crowder, III & his wife, Mary and Sherille Joy Crowder; a stepson, Dale R. Wood, Jr.; his twin sister, Janet Cheatham; and his brother, Edward Crowder; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Daniel, Joseph, James, David, Brianna, Matthew, Noah, Caleb and Michael.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.There will be no funeral service at Charles' request.
