Charles Young

Charles Young, age 97, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital, after a brief illness.

Charlie was born in Philadelphia and lived most of his life in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Upper Darby High School and then enlisted in the US Coast Guard and proudly served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WW II. He attended Pierce Business College and Penn State, earning a certificate for Sales and Advertising. He worked at INA in Philadelphia and finished his career at Scott Paper after 27 years. He was an active member and elder of the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 21 with 75 continuous years. He was also a life member of the VFW post 8714. He has resided in Delaware for the past 23 years and was a member of St. Philips Lutheran Church.

Charlie enjoyed traveling the country in his motor home, playing golf until age 90 and spending time with his extended family and friends.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Alyce and Elwood; his first wife, Ruth of 46 years; his second wife, Anna of 23 years and his stepson, Larry Wildasin in 2020.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Perchalski (Michael); 2 granddaughters, Bernadette and Jennifer and his stepdaughter, Nancy Florian (Jim).

Burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware. A future memorial service is planned at St. Philips Lutheran Church in the spring.
