Clyde Arthur Nafzinger was called to his eternal home on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the age of 89.
He was son of late Lewis and Lois Nafzinger. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of 39 years. He was predeceased by foster sister, Thelma Hughes of Nashville TN, brother John and Shirley Nafzinger of Crumpton MD, brother, Moses and Jean Nafzinger, step daughter, Ruth Ann Woodward and son in law, Gus Puleo. Remaining are his children Cornelia (Zing) Nafzinger, son Hans Nafzinger (Patty), daughter Donna Gerhold (Tom), foster son Kevin Bowe (Lisa) and step children Ralf Hopkins (Vicki), Carol Puleo, son-in-law Scott Woodward, sister-in-law Sandra Nafzinger, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He graduated from Towson High School in Towson, MD. He satisfied his military responsibility with 32 months of civilian service in Minnesota and Germany. He was a partner in the dairy farm at Chesapeake City, MD and the LJC Farm Store in Cecilton, MD. After graduating Nursing training, he worked as a nurse at Perry Point Veterans Hospital for 30 years. He was a volunteer fireman for 22 years with Hacks Point Fire Co. and past Fire Chief of the company. He was also Past President of Cecil County Firemen’s Association and Past president of the Harford and Cecil County Firemen’s Association. He served several years on the Fire Prevention Committee of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association and was a member of the Eastern Shore Thresherman Association.
Clyde and his family enjoyed camping and were DE State Directors of Family Campers and RV’ers and held various offices in their local chapter. He enjoyed singing and sang for several years with the Chorus of the Delaware Saengerbund and Library Association at Newark, DE and with his church choir. He was also a member of Newark Deltones Barbershop Chorus.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, April 30 from 10 to 11 am at the Richardson Park United Methodist Church, 11 North Maryland Ave, Wilmington, DE. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11 am. Luncheon will be held after the service in the church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private for the family.
