Donald "Donny" Werts, age 64, of Newark, formerly of New Castle, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Donny attended McKean High School. He worked for Falcon/Hellmark Steel and East Coast Erectors/Mid-Atlantic Steel.
Donny loved stock cars, classic cars, and all forms of racing. He was a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. He also enjoyed watching football. Most recently following Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in their bid for another Super Bowl win. He enjoyed morning trips for coffee and donuts and commiserating with friends at his shop, DW Auto Repair.
Donny is preceded in death by his brother, Cyrus C. Werts Jr, and his parents, Cyrus C. Werts Sr and Lorraine Werts
Survivors include his spouse, Georgetta Hartsoe, who he has spent the past 42 years with; his children, Don Werts, Justina Milligan (Tom), Keith Hartsoe (Jess) and Kevin Hartsoe; sister, Donna M. Lucas (Calvin); grandchildren, Jade Werts, Joe Zebrook and Abigail Milligan.
Abigail being his constant side-kick. She would often travel with "Pop Pop" to his shop, as well as weekly visits to the New Castle Farmers Market, SPCA and Chuck-E-Cheese. He will be deeply missed and loved forever.
The family would like to thank and recognize the Home Health Care and Rehabilitation Services staff with Christiana Hospital along with the team at Story Health.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.
