Elizabeth "Betsy" Stewart

Betsy Stewart, an avid singer and long-time resident of Dover, De, passed away peacefully, in her home, on June 8th, 2022, at the age of 90.

Betsy was born in Richmond, Va. on the 18th of October, 1931. Her passion was her family, which she built the foundation for with her loving husband Dale (deceased). Before moving to DE, Betsy lived with Dale in Alexandria, Va, where she worked as an administrator for the Alexandria School System and Booze Allen Hamilton. She also worked at the State Department, and did amazing work with the League of Women Voters. Betsy was devoted to God and her church, becoming a member of the First Christian Church of Alexandria in 1950. She was a wonderful singer, and sang with the DE Choral Society at Carnegie Hall in New York. She also sang with the First Christian Church of Alexandria and the People's Church of Dover.

Betsy was impossibly strong, defeating breast cancer twice. She used her experiences to inspire strength in other through her volunteer work at Kent General Hospital where she counseled those fighting their battles against the disease. Betsy's memory will be carried always by her children Julie Stewart Borden, Scott Stewart, and Bill Stewart. Her "favorite people called her nana". Grandchildren; Woody Stewart, Erin Stewart, Kelsey Wiser, MacKenna Stewart, Nick Borden, Julianne Elizabeth Borden, and Matt Ferguson. Great Grandchildren; Lily Stewart, Fíona Eilís Ferguson, Jackson Wiser, and Georgia Anne Elizabeth Wiser.

A Memorial Service will be held a 3 pm on Wednesday, August 24 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St. Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 2 pm. Burial will be private. To send an online condolence visit www.nicholsgilmore.com.
