Elsie Cox, age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Brandywine Convalescent Center, where her care was managed by Compassionate Care Hospice.
Elsie was born July 13, 1918 in Wilmington, DE. Elsie retired from The Playhouse Theatre after 25 years as treasurer of the box office, where she enjoyed meeting many famous Hollywood and Broadway stars. She was also employed for many years in the admissions department of Delaware Park and Brandywine Raceway.She was an avid sports fan, reading every word of the sports section knowing the name, number and stats of all the Phillies and Eagles players. Elsie was also a great lover of music, her favorites being Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, whose live concerts she attended many times.
She was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Eddie Holler, her parents Edward C. Sowden and Virginia Sowden Zwickl, her brother, W. Allen Sowden and her husband, Walter W. Cox.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jackie Young of Millville and Gerry Holler & her husband, Edd of Newark; three grandchildren, Paul Murphy of Dover, Denise Allen of Millville and Wendy Mullin of Newark; five great-grandchildren, Nick & Sarah Murphy, Zachery Allen, Allison Holler and Tyler Edward Mullin.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Compassionate Care Hospice with a special thanks to Courtney Portsman and Terry Gulick for their care and support.
Per her wishes, there will be no viewing. Services will take place at the Lakeside M E Cemetery, 558 N. State Street, Dover, DE on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 would be appreciated.
