Evelyn passed away on Tuesday May 5, 2015.
A graduate of Conrad High School, Evelyn earned a degree in Public Health Nursing in 1948 and a BS degree in Education, both from the University of Pennsylvania. She worked for about 20 years as a Public Health Nurse for the State of Delaware at the Delaware State Hospital and then worked for about 10 years for the Department of Labor as an Employer Relations Representative and Tuberculosis Instructor at Emily Bissell Hospital before retiring in 1979.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of VFW 2863, Richardson Park, and the Delaware Hospital Alumni Association.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Albert M. Stretton Jr in 2001; her sister Ruth Gooden and brothers William Martin and Frederick Baumgardt.
Survivors include her son Alan M. Stretton and grandchildren Elizabeth Stretton and Matthew Stretton.
Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 13 at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis Street, Newport, DE where visitation will begin at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Lombardy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Evelyn's memory to the SPCA, 455 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713.
