A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Federico A. Espinosa Florez, 91, of Newark, DE, passed away at home with family by his side on Saturday, March 24, 2018. He has peacefully moved onto his next life where his two beautiful angels, John D, III. (Grandson) and Erika Marie (His Lindurita, Granddaughter) have received him with open wings to join the family team of angels.
Federico was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, to Ana Maria Florez and Federico Espinosa. In his younger years he enjoyed spending time with his brothers in law on weekends playing dominos and cards. He was a man of many talents and family and friends could always count on him to repair or fix anything. He was also a jokester; a funny man with a straight face on. Federico was a dentist for 40 years; a career he worked hard and excelled at and loved doing.
He loved the United States and in 1991 fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving his family here. He did however miss his family and friends back in Colombia and especially missed going to the market for fresh fish. Federico loved to cook and bake, often making Flan or Cake for family and friends special occasions, another one of his favorite meal to prepare was a whole fried fish and coconut rice. In recent years, he enjoyed playing bingo with his friends at Main Towers and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Federico lived with his wife Gladys of 66 years; he adored her and always placed his family as the most important thing in life. He will be remembered as an ethical man and an exemplary father and was known as “Papipelico” by his grandchildren, a nickname he cherished.
Federico is survived by his lovely wife Gladys Espinosa, six children, Rocio (Humberto Arcila), Lina, Federico Jr. (Mabel Garay), Patricia (Agustin Perez), Gustavo (Liliana Medina) and Liliana (Pam Sachetta); 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Seasons Hospice, Main Towers and the many friends for their support. The patience and kindness provided during the past months was nothing less than inspiring; words cannot adequately express our gratitude.
Services will be private.
