Of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2010, the day before celebrating her 93rd birthday.
Florence was a 1936 graduate of Wilmington High School. In her early years she was an active member of West Presbyterian Church in Wilmington where she sang in the Adult choir until becoming one of the founding members of Calvary Presbyterian Church in the 1950's. At Calvary she also sang in the Adult choir and served on the Board of Deacons, the Woman's Association as well as several committees. She was also a member of Women United and Presbyterian Women. Florence retired from Christiana Care in 1992 after 17 years of service but continued to volunteer at the hospital for an additional 10 years.
Florence was preceded in death in 1975 by her husband of 36 years, R. Edward Barlow; her parents, Robert and Goldie Carlisle; and her brothers Robert and Francis Carlisle. She is survived by her sons, Edward and his wife Connie, of Hockessin, DE, Steven of Salisbury, MD and Bruce and his wife Kathy of Akron, OH; and her granddaughters, Stephanie and Kara Barlow.
Funeral services will be 11 am on Tuesday, August 17th, in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park,
N. DuPont HWY, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 am.
The family suggests contributions in Florence's memory to Calvary Presbyterian Church Handicap Access Fund, 701 S. Maryland Ave., Wilm. DE 19804.
