Francis "Mickey" Johnson

Francis M. “Mickey” Johnson, age 72, of Wilmington, formerly of West Grove, PA, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2023.

Mickey was born December 23, 1950 to the late Lewis H. and Marian Johnson. He was a 1969 graduate of Avon Grove High School and always enjoyed taking part in and helping with the reunions. After graduation, Mickey began a career with DuPont. During his second year there, he was drafted into the army and stationed in Korea during the Vietnam war. Upon discharge, Mickey resumed his job at DuPont where he remained for another 35+ years. Post retirement, he enjoyed delivering flowers for local florists.

Mickey loved tennis and was a longtime USTA member where he competed with various teams and groups over the years. He loved classic cars, visiting Lancaster county, vacationing in Wildwood Crest with his wife and granddaughter, attending his grandchildrens sporting events, watching MeTV and was an avid Phillies fan.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers James “Eggy”, Robert “Bobby” and Timothy “Timmy” Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Sharon Ford; daughter, Cristina Savage; step daughter, Amber Ford; brother, Tom Johnson (Christine); sister, Nancy Graham; grandchildren, Carly Spayd, Chase, Reese, Shane and Sloane Savage; lifelong friends Bill Thompson(Karen) and Andy Lamborn; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Burial will be private.
