Gabriel David Cherico, age 62, of Claymont, DE formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses.
Gabe was a man whose generous spirit, boundless charisma, and vibrant personality, left an enduring mark on all who knew him. He took pride in his work as a painter, skillfully teaching his craft with his children and those around him, passing down both his knowledge and dedication. Gabe enjoyed watching sports on TV but especially loved cheering for the Phillies and his beloved Eagles in person. In his youth, Gabe was an avid dirt bike rider and a dedicated soccer player for Delcastle High School. Gabe deeply loved his children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them and leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Anyone who knew Gabe knew he was a lover of animals. He especially cherished his cats, and his most adored companion was Garfield who brought him great comfort and joy. Though life presented many challenges, he continued to push through with determination and resilience.
Preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Harry and Irene 'Nanny' Toy, who lovingly raised him and were a constant source of support and care. Survived by: his son, Ryan Villermaux, (Sandi) and their children Liam and Olivia; his son, Brandon Villermaux (Victoria); his daughter, Felicia Villermaux, (Daniel), and their children Daniel and Keegan; his daughter, Gabrielle Mills; daughter; Mickey Mills; also survived by Gabriel Wildrick his brothers, Tom Cherico (Leilani) and Robert Cherico (preceded by Kim); his sisters, Katherine DeBonis and JoAngela Vari ; Aunt, Joy Irwin (Dave) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Though his time with us was far too short, Gabe’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His spirit, his laughter, and his love for his family will never be forgotten.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Nichols - Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 East Justis Street Newport, DE 19804, where visitation will begin at Noon.
