Garrett (Gary) W. Dawson Jr (78) passed away Saturday August 13, 2022 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett W. Sr. and Esther Grant and brother, Grant Dawson.
A graduate of Conrad High School, Gary joined the US Army then went on to pursue a career in law enforcement in Delaware and Maryland. He had a love of horses and horseshoeing and in 1977, created and patented an adjustable horse brace that has been used to save countless horses with broken legs from being scheduled for destruction
.
Outside of horses, Gary loved to tell stories and jokes and always had an infectious smile. He was an accomplished guitarist with a love for country music and songwriting. He was often known to take long road trips, seldom traveling without his dog and faithful companion, Baby. He enjoyed spending time with his children.
Gary is survived by his sons, Brian Dawson (Jenn), Kristopher Dawson (Jackie); their children (Grace and Noel) and daughters Carrie Ashley Lopez; her children (Mariah, Linda, Angelina and Julian) and Kimberly Lynn Dawson; her children (Leanati Annette, Anthoni Ivan, Landon Axel).
He will be interned at the Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
