Gary Bruce Hanna, age 67, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020. Gary was a 1970 graduate of Conrad High School and attended the University of Delaware. As a lifelong Newport, DE resident, his career included engineering drafting and many years as a USPS mail carrier.
A beach lover since childhood, his favorite was Wildwood, NJ with its wide stretches of sand and boardwalk. Gary was a great sportsman and loved playing games, which are remembered fondly by his younger family members, as always fun and full of laughter. As an avid Philadelphia 76ers fan, he enjoyed a continual discussion about who were the greatest players of all time.
Gary will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, with a quick laugh and caring conversation for just about anyone he met. He had a saving faith in Jesus, which directed his life. He enjoyed teaching Bible studies and looked forward to the day he would be greeted by his Lord into heaven.
Gary was the youngest son of Harold T Hanna and Nancy S Hanna, both of Newport, and is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, H Thomas Hanna, and Jay A Hanna. He is survived by his nieces, Mary Beth Evans of Rehoboth, DE and Cynthia (Haug) Scharnowski of Elgin, IL, and nephew, Thomas J Hanna (Lexie) of Greenville, DE, along with six great nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
