Gene A. Dempsey

Gene A. Dempsey passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2016, with his family by his side. Gene was born on January 15, 1934, on his family's dairy farm in Corner Ketch. Gene worked for Delmarva Power for 30 years as a pipe fitter. After retirement, he spent many happy hours working on his collection of antique Chevrolets and tractors and taking day trips "up country" with his wife, family and friends. Gene was a member of the Union Grange #1 and the International Order of Redmen.
Gene was predeceased by his son, Daniel; daughter, Karen; sister, Dorothy Nelson; brothers, Norman, Melvin and Ferris; and stepson, Michael Kulesza. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Irene; brother, Louis and his wife, Theresa of Newark; daughters, Kandie of Elkton and Gena of Wilmington; step-daughter, Carolyn and her husband, George, of Wilmington; daughter-in-law, Janet of Wilmington; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
