George Cotton

October 6, 1920 — December 14, 2010

Age 90, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in the presence of his family.

George was a US Navy veteran having served 6 active duty years and 27 years as a Ready Reserve; being called back during the Cuban Crisis. He also retired from Cotton's Refuse Co. after many years in business.

George was a member of the Armstrong Masonic Lodge #26 and a 50-year member of Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport.

One of his happiest memories was when his grandson Brian was drafted from the University of Delaware in 1992 by the Seattle Mariners.

George was born in Portland, OR on October 6, 1920 to the late Harry and Ruby Cotton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, June Cotton Baker. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jennie Nottingham Cotton formerly of Cape Charles, VA; his daughter, Lynn Turner & husband Bruce; three grandchildren, Lori Crawford & husband Douglas, Kenneth Wallace & wife Jessica and Brian Wallace & wife Colleen; seven great-grandchildren, Shelby, Sam & Lindsay Crawford, Alexandra, Jenna & Piper Wallace, and Jared Wallace; and his niece, Charlotte Keane of Seattle, WA and brother-in-law, Lawrence Nottingham of Cheriton, VA.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 17th at Peniel UMC where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in George's memory to Peniel UMC, 115 East Market Street, Newport, DE 19804; or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, First State Chapter, 100 West 10th St., Ste. 1103, Wilmington, DE 19801-1623.
