George died peacefully on Thursday March 26, 2015 at home with his wife by his side.
George was a 1945 graduate of Conrad High School where he played football and baseball. He retired from Carpenter Local 626 in 1987 after 39 years of service. George was a member of the Armstrong Masonic Lodge 26 in Newport.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane Hicks Garber; his children, Curtis Garber (Darlene), David Garber (Donelle), Deborah Graham (John), Roger, Carol Hackett (Bill), Sandy Ward (Geoff), Walter Garber (Linda) and Kevin Garber (Sandy); his 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and his brothers Charles and Edward Garber.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday March 31 at PENIEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 115 E. Market St., Newport DE 19804. Services will be at 11am on Wednesday April 1 at the Church where a second visitation will begin at 10am. Burial will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Middletown.
