George L. Rice, 86 of Wilmington, DE went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2013 in his home. Mr. Rice was born October 13, 1926 in Ellsworth, PA a son of the late Ralph and Sarah Baker Rice. George retired from General Motors. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Armstrong Lodge #26 A.F.& A.M. in Newport, DE, and the Delaware Consistory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, MaryAnn (Basey) Rice; three children, Victoria Rice, Virginia Powell and George Thomas Rice, his “special buddy”, who was always by his side. Three brothers, James Rice (Betty) of California, PA, Elmer Rice of Daisytown, PA and David Rice of Roscoe, PA; one sister, Alice Gedman of Roscoe, PA; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are two brothers, William and Ralph Rice, one sister, Marian Stasko and one granddaughter. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Celene and Tandrea of Hartland Hospice for the special care given during his illness.
Friends were received on Friday, April 12, at the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where services were held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Andy Scott officiating. Interment was in the Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. Monongahela Valley Lodge #461 F&AM conducted services at 7:15 P.M. Friday in the funeral home. Military Rites were accorded graveside by Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
