Helen passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 after a short illness.
She was a member of St. Matthews Church. Helen retired from the IRS after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband Charles, spending summers at West Bay Park and eating crabs with her family any time of the year.. Every September she looked forward to attending "The polkamotion at the Ocean" in Ocean City, MD. Most of all Helen loved spending time with her great grandchildren who brought a smile to her face.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles M. Surowiec who passed away in 2009 and her sister, Jane Dudek who passed away in 2013. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Dierdorf (Doug) and Carol Conway (Bill); her grandchildren, Bill Conway (Laurie), Amy Drennan (Geof), Johanna Dierdorf (Mike Blackburn) and Erika Crow (Tim); her great grandchildren, Hanna and Brayden and her niece Lorraine Twardowski (Charlie).
A Catholic Funeral Service will be 11 AM on Wednesday, February 17 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 10 AM. Entombment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.
