Horace D. "Toby" Taylor, age 86 of Lewes, Delaware and formerly of Broadkill Beach and Newport, Delaware passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 after bravely battling a long illness.
Toby was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and companion. He loved being with his family, especially during summers at Broadkill Beach at the family cottage he built with his own hands. Toby enjoyed fishing and walking the beach with his family, and proudly walked and rode his bicycle daily. He worked at the DuPont Company in Newport for 34 years, was Past Master of Ionic Lodge #31 and was a "Dad" for both Jobs Daughters and DeMolay in Newport.
Toby was raised in Stanton, Delaware before moving to Newport. Toby is survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Nancy Vanaman; daughter, June E. Taylor, and her companion James A. Smith; son, James D. Taylor, Sr.,( J.D. ) and his wife, Catherine H. Taylor; his grandson, James D. Taylor, Jr., and wife Jennifer; his granddaughter, Lauren C. Kable, and her husband, Kevin; three great grandchildren, Carson, Shepard and Clay whom he loved and adored; and his brothers, John W. Taylor and Newell C. Taylor. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth, two brothers William and Richard and his wife of 45 years Charlotte H. Mahan Taylor.
Funeral Services will be 10 AM on Tuesday, March 8 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 e. Justis St., Newport where visitation will be Monday, March 7 from 6 to 8 PM and where Masonic Services will be held at 6 PM. Burial will be at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Newport.
