Janet passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
She was the last of the 11 children of the late Nathaniel and Katherine (Roberts) Smith. Janet was a 1952 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School. She retired from the Personal Finance Department of the Wilmington Trust Company after over 50 years of service. Janet was a very active member of Peniel Church for over 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at West Bay Park on Rehoboth Bay, reading, Delaware Park, attending family plays and music recitals and exercising at Curves Fitness Center. Janet supported ticket sales for UofD football and was a longtime season ticket holder and avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. More than anything else, she loved spending time with the light of her life, Darby Ann.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, John M. "Jack" Smiley, Sr. in 2003. She is survived by her stepson, John M. "Jack" Smiley, Jr and his wife Suzanne; her godsons; her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 22 at Peniel United Methodist Church, 115 E. Market St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 10 AM. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. DuPont Hwy, New Castle.
