Jean Fox Porter, 89 passed away peacefully on January 18, 2013 in Wilmington, DE where she had resided since 2008. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Jean was born July 11, 1923 in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of Arthur Fox and Harriet Sauer Fox. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert J. Porter, whom she married August 12, 1943: her two brothers, Donald and Lewis Fox, and two sisters, Norma Fox Armstrong and Audrey Fox Brower.
Mrs. Porter was a 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School, and a 1942 graduate of the Brodean Business School. She spent many years employed by the Gloversville Enlarged School District as high school secretary initially, and later as an administrative secretary for the Superintendent's office. After her retirement from the district she was employed by the office of Dr. David Handron of Gloversville until she fully retired at the age of 72.
Jean was an active member of the original St. Mary's church and served on the committee that merged that church with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (which is now The Church of the Holy Spirit) where she continued to serve in many capacities including Eucharistic Minister to the sick at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She remained an active member until her move to Wilmington, DE to live with her son, Robert J. Porter, Jr. and his wife, Susan.
In addition to Robert and Susan, Mrs. Porter is survived by her daughter, Barbara Poter Kruza (James) of York, PA, her son Dan M. Porter (Deborah) of Gloversville, and her son Timothy Jon Porter (Barbara Carlson) of Niskayuna, NY. In addition there are 9 grandchildren, James S.Kruza, jr. (Lori), Lisa Kruza Luckenbaugh (Wayne), Benjamin J. Porter, Megan Porter Keeth (Edward), Marc Porter (Bethany), Michael Porter, Kevin Porter (Michelle), Christopher Porter, and Stephen Porter. There are also ten great grandchildren. She also has one loving sister, Shirley Fox Bendl of Gloversville.
Her many friends and family will forever cherish the many wonderful memories of her life and devotion to those she loved. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She lived her life with great spirit and dignity, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.
The family will plan a memorial service in Gloversville at a future date in the spring. Jean's wishes are that any contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of your choice.
