Jean died on Friday, February 13, 2015 after a lifelong battle with various forms of cancer. She was the only surviving child of John and Cecelia Zell Puczylowski.
She was an honors graduate of Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Jr. College. Jean retired from the University of Delaware in 1989 after 27 years in cost accounting and contracts administration.
Throughout her life Jean was interested in writing and public policy. She was the quintessential volunteer. Jean served as a Public Policy Coordinator on the Board of the National Assn. for Family & Community Education, as well as two terms as state president for Delaware. She was active in her community and served several terms on the Board of Brookside Community, INC.
Jean was active in her church and served on its Vestry and as Senior Warden. Her love of writing was reflected in her columns for the Community Advisory Board of the News-Journal, as well as her many letters to the editor. Her memoir "A Sentimental Journey" was the result of her many years membership in the Scribblers Group at the Newark Senior Center. Jean loved nature, wildlife and especially her pets dogs throughout her life.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul J. Skibinski in 2003, and her sons, Paul Andrew Skibinski and Matthew Paul Skibinski. She is survived by her son David Paul Skibinski (Carole) of Warwick MD, daughters-in-law, Saber Lummus and Sarah Yeoman; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
A Memorial Service will be 2pm on Friday, February 20 at St. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 2 S. Augustine St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 1pm. Burial will be private.
