Age 91 of Wilmington, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Jeanne was born in Newport on August 6, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Etta Benson.
Jeanne was a 1937 graduate of Conrad High School and a 1939 graduate of Goldy Business College. She was a longtime member of Peniel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering with R.P.C.A.P. and organizing Meals On Wheels routes in the Newport/Richardson Park areas. While at Ingleside, Jeanne was active as a chapel volunteer, gift shop worker and attended a weekly study group.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, L. William Thomas, in 1997. She is survived my her daughter, Susan E. Sayers; her granddaughter, Lisa S. McMahon and her husband John; her great grandchildren, Caroline and Brady McMahon; and several cousins.
Funeral Services will be 3:00pm, Tuesday, May 31st at Peniel United Methodist Church, where visitation will begin at 2:30p.m. Burial will follow in St. James Church Cemetery, Augustine St.& Newport Pike.
