John (“Jack”) Joseph Devine, Jr. age 80, of Wilmington, Delaware, was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, May 9, 2022.
Jack was born in Darby, Pennsylvania, to John J. Devine, Sr. and Veronica (Vera) Devenny. He grew up in the Ridley Park. Pa. area and learned how to fish at a nearby creek with the help of one of the local fishermen near his parents’ home. His parents relocated to Wilmington during Jack’s early childhood where they attended St. Joseph’s On the Brandywine Catholic Church. Jack attended grammar school at St. Joe’s and served as an altar boy for several years. He graduated from Salesianum High School in 1960 and then from Villanova University in 1964.
Jack served in the U.S. National Guard. He was employed briefly by the DuPont Company after college graduation, but later had an extraordinary career in sales, enjoying many years with Xerox Corp. Afterwards he worked in medical benefits sales. Jack was an avid golfer and for many years was a member of the DuPont Country Club. He and his wife and children spent many years at their vacation cottage along the Delaware Bay in Cape May County, NJ, where he continued his love of fishing along the Jersey Shore.
Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Donna (Grabski) Devine; his children, Ann (Hague), David, Robert and Daniel; grand-children Nathaniel, Patricia and Emily (Hague); Zacharie, Ryan, Allison; Robin, Roy; Isabella, Nash; and great-children Abel, Eliana, Rylee; sisters Marguerite (Devine) Brown of Tampa, Florida
and Mary (Devine) O’Neill of Lewes, Delaware.
