John Joseph "Jock" McGovern, Jr., age 85, of Dover and formerly of New Castle County, DE, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015.
Jock was a 1947 graduate of Salesianum School. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal while serving with the 7th Air Division of the U.S. Air Force. Prior to retiring in 1991, he was a chemical operator at the Dupont Co. Experimental Station for 44 and a half years.
Jock was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross in Dover and a former member at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Wilmington. He enjoyed cooking, hunting and working in the yard.
Jock was the last survivor of 8 children. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elda H. McGovern; his daughter, Tina M. Feltcher; his son, Richard L. McGovern; his five grandchildren, Michael J. Feltcher, Johnathan M. Feltcher, Meghan E. Feltcher, Caitlin E. Feltcher and Jacqueline E. McGovern; his two great grandchildren, Hailey E. Feltcher and Harper M. Feltcher.
Funeral services followed by military honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis Street, Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Dr., Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713 or the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
