John Nicholas Vaneschak December 29, 1944 – April 5, 2023

John N. Vaneschak, Johnny, arrived on December 29, 1944, in Perth Amboy, N.J. welcomed by John T. Vaneschak and Olga Kolody, his parents and his sisters, Beverly Elaine Mauger of Wilmington, N.C. and the late Barbara Marie Erbach of Pensacola, Fl. Nieces and nephews include Kim Erbach of Florida, the late Kari Doubleday of Colorado, Scott Erbach of South Carolina, Eric Erbach of Georgia, Wayne Mauger and Barry Mauger of Massachusetts. He was a beloved friend of Patty Field, the late Eleanor Kirby, Alice Cornelius, Joe Cartwright, Jennie Brown, Dave Hamilton and Diane White.

John graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1962. He played baseball for them following his years in Little League establishing many pitching and home run records during this time. He continued to play ball at Delaware Valley University in Pennsylvania where he continued to set records. He also honed his love of agriculture, especially vegetables. His education continued at Lehigh University where his degree in elementary education followed his sisters’ interest in teaching. John taught social studies first in Florida then in the Wilmington, DE schools.

John loved folk dancing and being part of the theater. He served as backstage and set-up crew of many Wilmington, DE productions. He chose to leave teaching and became involved in home restoration and renovation particularly in the Cool Spring neighborhood. All the while he maintained his interest in gardening at the Gardens at Bellevue. His crops of rutabagas, gourds, heirloom tomatoes, hot peppers of all varieties will be sorely missed by his neighbors and passers-by.

John was a very private person with an innate sense of justice and fairness. He loved music, gardening, cooking, eating, corny jokes, the Eagles and his cat “Big Fluff.” He went on to glory on April 5, 2023.
