Age 75, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2012 with his family by his side.
Joe was the youngest of six children born to the late Alice G. and Asher E. Burbage who lived in Ocean View. He graduated for Lord Baltimore High School in 1955 and then moved to Wilmington, 1956.
Joe retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 2002 after 42 years of service. He continued his service with Prudential as Agent Emeritus for several years.
Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise Skinner Burbage; daughter, Anne Louise Burbage; son, Brian Joseph Burbage; three grandchildren, Laura Anne Bellefontaine and her husband William; Elizabeth Somer Emmi and Nicholas Andrew Emmi. Also surviving is his sister, Jean Burton of Frankford, DE; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Mitchell and Ruth Tyre; and two brothers, Herbert and Jack.
Mary Lou, Anne and Brian express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Foulk Manor South for their loving care and devotion to Joe during the past five and one half years. God Bless you all!
A viewing for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 pm, Friday, November 2nd at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport. Funeral services and interment will be held privately.
