Leslie Leach

October 21, 1926 — January 6, 2008

Leslie A. Leach of Portsville, DE, passed away quietly in his home on Leslie Lane, Saturday, January 6, 2008. He was born October 21, 1926, in the small coal town of Leslie, WV, the son of Andrew J. and Bertie Mae Leach.

Les, as he was known by all, served his country in the US Navy from December 1942 until his honorable discharge in November 1945. He retired from the US Postal Service having been a letter carrier in rural Maryland for 28 years.

He was an avid square dancer for over 35 years, as well as a caller. He was a longtime member of Happy Squares and Single Steppers and a lifetime member of Dorchester Swingers, he performed square dance exhibitions for many local senior centers and nursing homes. Les was also a member of the Portsville United Methodist Church. He loved being with family and friends, helping others, strumming the guita, being outdoors and most of all, fishing.

Les is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine;his daughters, Vickie Leach of Portsville, DE and Sue Sura of Bel Air, MD. He is also survived by one brother, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He had three brothers and three sisters who predeceased him.

There will no funeral service, per Mr. Leach's request, however, there will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 pm, at the Portsville United Methodist Church, 31050 Dogwood Lane, Portsville.

The family suggests contributions in Leslie's memory to Compassionate Care Hospice, 31038 Country Garden Blvd., Dagsboro, DE 19939.
