Marguerite D. Ashley, age 72, of Newark, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 6, 2025 in the presence of her family.
Marguerite grew up in Chelsea Estates and Wilmington Manor, with a few years in Germany with her Air Force dad and family. She lived in central Newark since entering University of Delaware as a freshman in 1970. Marguerite worked as a library page, bookstore clerk and Main Street manager in Newark and Milford. She served as president of the Delaware chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, on Newark’s Planning Commission, and as secretary of AFSME Local 3109. Following retirement as a housing planner for New Castle County, she worked to help homeless persons into shelter, and as a tax preparer. Her favorite job was mother to Jon Ashley, Ernest Lundgren IV, and Rob Lundgren.
Marguerite was a fantastic cook, a lifelong fan of the Phillies, and a lover of art and music. She was charitable and beloved in community service.
Marguerite is survived by her sons, Jon Ashley, Ernest Lundgren IV, and Robert Lundgren; her siblings, Mark D’Orazio, Rae Stabosz (Bill), Jim D’Orazio (Myrna), Sue D’Orazio and Nick D’Orazio and other extended family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, February 18 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 200 E. Main St. Newark, Delaware (parking is available at the Newark shopping center) where visitation will begin at 10 am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
