Age 41, of Newark, DE, departed this life on Thursday, August 27, 2009.
Mel worked in security at Delaware Park and loved cooking, fishing, wrestling and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Denise, in 1994. Survivors include his wife, of 15 years, Hilda; daughter, Eunice Rogers; grandchildren, Paul Chestnut-Allen; Patrick Chestnut-Smith and Angel Chestnut-Allen; his parents, Dallas and Dorothy Bolen; paternal grandmother, Eva Bolen; his brother Dallas, Jr. (Vanette); his sister, Jeannie Heverin; nephews, Dallas, III, Jordon, Cody and Zach;his niece, Jacqueline and several aunts and uncles.
A celebration of life service will be 7:30pm, Monday, August 31st, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 500 W. Chestnut Hill Rd., Newark. Interment will be private.
The family suggests contributions in Melvin's memory to American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720; American Diabetes Assoc. or Juvenile Diabetes Assoc., 100 W. 10th St., Wilm., DE 19801.
