Monnis U. Harris

Monnis passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his home.
He was originally from Broadford, VA, the son of the late W. Stuart and Beulah B. (Crewey) Harris. Monnis served as an Army infantryman during the Korean War, receiving various decorations, including the Purple Heart. He worked at the Speakman Co. for 44 years before retiring in 1998 as a supervisor. Monnis enjoyed gardening, fishing trips, watching sports and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Cate.
Monnis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beulah L. Harris; his son, Michael Harris of Wilmington; his daughter, Kimberly Harris and her husband, Eric Freiwald of Vienna, VA; his granddaughter, Cate Freiwald; his brother, Dennis Harris and his wife Mary and his nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be 3 PM on Saturday, February 27 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, where visitation will begin at 2:30 PM. Burial will be private.
The family would appreciate contributions in Monnis' memory to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd floor, Polly Drummond Hill Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.
