Peter Savitski, age 90 of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 in New Jersey.
Mr. Savitski was born October 24, 1919. At a young age, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression serving in various parts of the country. He became a Merchant Marine during WWII making many trips across the Atlantic witnessing the bombing of Naples, submarine attacks and many other events. After the war, Pete continued to travel around the world working for Sunoco for almost 40 years where he rose to the rank of Chief Mate-Operations Officer aboard Sun's fleet of oil tankers.
In his retired years, he was devoted to and loved dearly his three grandchildren Vincent, Lisa, and Marci D'AGOSTINO. Grandpop enjoyed bowling at Prices Lane and playing volleyball at the Senior Fraims Center. He was also dedicated to taking care of his cockatiel Nebby who you could always find perched on his shoulder. Pete also enjoyed Saturdays at Delaware Park and Phillies games, not to mention countless little league games.
Grandpop was always there when you needed him, whether it was a trip to McDonalds, a ride home from school, talks about college and our careers, or just good advice. We loved him very much and will miss his stories, crazy comments, and his strength & guidance. His sense of humor coupled with his tell-it-like-it-is attitude always made for a fun time.
He is survived by his daughter Kathryn D'Agostino and her husband Mark, his grandchildren Vincent, Lisa and Marci D'Agostino, all from Gibbstown, NJ. Also brothers William from MA, Alfred from PA and Marion from FL and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife Marie, his son Paul, sisters Helen and Pauline and brothers Edward and Stanley.
There will be a committal service at the Veteran's Cemetery in Bear, DE on Wednesday, June 2 at 11:00 am. Contributions in Pete's memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 600 Highland Dr., Westampton, NJ 08060.
