Age 85 of Newark, formerly of Millvale, PA, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 13, 2012 in the presence of his family and friends.

Phil was a WWII Navy veteran serving with the Amphibious Forces.He worked in the construction industry in New Castle County for many years.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Katherine Wittmer; brother, Ralph; sister, Henrietta Wittmer; and grandchildren, Cora Beth Vaughan and Philip Tomlinson; and son-in-law, Larry Harden.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Dolores Layhue Wittmer; children, Pamela Harden, Shaun(Glenn) Vaughn, Stacie (Jerry) Rife and Scott (Anna) Wittmer;sisters, Catherine Brandon and Claramae Johnson; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and other extended family.

Phil's family would like to thank Vitas Hospice and Daryll Overby and Robert Cordell.

Funeral services will be 12 noon, Thursday, May 17th, at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, where visitation will be from 6pm to
8pm on Wednesday, May 16th. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

The family suggests contributions in Phil's memory to the American Cancer Society.
