It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ray Gilbert Johns, 66, of Claymont, Delaware who died on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Christiana Hospital after a brief illness.
Ray was born in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1957. He grew up in Claymont, Delaware, graduated from Claymont High School in 1975 and attended the University of Delaware majoring in International Relations. Ray traveled the world many years as an Abled Body Seaman, most recently working for Seafarers International Union of North America, AFLCIO.
Ray shared his parents passion for thoroughbred racing and derived much pleasure betting on the horses at Delaware Park. Ray loved to debate his favorite subject, politics. He remained a staunch Democrat his entire life. Best of all, he enjoyed posting on Facebook and communicating daily with those he considered his Facebook friends.
Ray leaves behind a legacy as a kind soul with a generous heart always willing to help those less fortunate. He found his greatest joy in the success and happiness of others.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Karl R. and Anne Johns of Claymont.
Ray is survived by his sister, Carla Necelis (Mark) and his six nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private.
Special thanks to all the Christiana doctors, nurses, and PA’s in CVCCC for their expert care, support, and compassion for Ray and family.
