Rebecca Essick

December 17, 1941 — November 13, 2016

Rebecca Matthews Essick, 74, went home to her Lord on November 13, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on December 17, 1941 to Van and Marie Matthews. She attended Northwest Forsyth High School where she was proudly a majorette. She then attended High Point Nursing School. She went on to raise three surviving daughters-Melany Earnhardt (husband-Fred), Christina Earnhardt Jones (husband-Kevin), and Angie Earnhardt Metzger. She cherished her three grandchildren-Samuel Hedrick, Jonathan Jones, and Stephanie Hedrick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rebecca was very proud to have served as a member of her local volunteer rescue squad and of her long-standing job as a teller at Bank of America. She also enjoyed singing with her local Sweet Adelines chapter. She liked to play the piano, play cards and make others smile. She made award winning pound cake and pies. She had a generous, giving heart and loved to surprise others with gifts at anytime of the year. She loved to tell old stories and jokes.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Captain Ted Essick of the Winston-Salem Fire Department, her parents, and her brothers Ronnie Matthews and Archie Matthews.

The family will be receiving friends from 3 PM to 5 PM on Sunday, November 20 at the Tanglewood Farms Community Clubhouse, 5010 Thoroughbred Lane, Clemmons NC 27012.
