Robert A. Monto

d. July 26, 2023

Robert A. Monto, age 87, of Newark, DE, formerly of Monmouth County, NJ, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Bob, better known to his family and friends as Pop Pop, was originally from Hoboken, New Jersey. He was an Army Veteran and retired after many years as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Middletown, NJ. Pop Pop was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland in Newark, DE and a former member of St. Leo The Great in Lincroft, NJ.

The highlight of his day was having coffee and sharing stories with the Dunkin Donuts crew in Glasgow. He loved his independence and keeping his car immaculate for his many adventures around town. He was tough as nails and strong willed but loved people and had a soft and caring core. He was the ultimate social butterfly and was happiest around people, always willing to put others ahead of his own needs. Most of all, Pop Pop loved his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Marie Monto and his eight siblings.

Survivors include his children, Lisa Heidelberg (Joel), Robert Monto Jr (Virginia) and Lori Russomano (Daniel) and his grandchildren, Meghan, Seth, Michael, Josefine, Daniel, and Danielle.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11AM on Friday, August 18 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Rd, Newark, DE 19702. Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 19 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Road, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
