Robert departed this life on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Smitty as he was called at Kohl's where he retired as an Assistant Manager in 2010 after many years of service. He later worked with the Cathedral Choir School of Delaware where he was known as Mr. Smith. He was a long time active member at St. James Episcopal Church. He enjoyed cooking and was an avid Phillies, Sixers and especially an Eagles fan.
Robert is survived by his sons, Stanley L. Avant (Mandy) and Leon Robert Smith; his siblings, all of Philadelphia; several grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews; 5 great nieces and nephews and his long time companion, Donna Niblett. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Lelia Watson and his former spouse, Vernell Smith.
A Memorial service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, October 8 at St. James Episcopal Church, 2 S. Augustine St., Newport, DE 19804 where visitation will begin at 10 AM.
