Ruth passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Cadia Broadmeadow Rehabilitation in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur H. and Bertha Guessford, her sister Betty Schoenberg, and a niece, Terri Moore. She is survived by her sister, Florence Marie Dickey of Moose Haven FL; brother, Arthur "Ike" Guessford (Virginia) of Odessa, DE; eight nieces and nephews, Kenneth Dickey (Judy) of Danville KY; Alice Vogt (Owen) of Vinton VA, Virginia Wells of Lewistown PA, Mark Schoenberg of San Francisco, CA Susan Hogan (Thomas) of Staten Island, NY, Sandy Bolyard (Don) of Townsend DE, Ralph Guessford of Hartly DE, Jackie McDermott (Jack) of Townsend DE. Ruth was loved by her many great nieces and great nephews.
Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Middletown High School. In 1972, Ruth was the first woman to be named a branch manager of Wilmington Trust Co. She retired from Wilmington Trust as an Assistant Vice President after 44 years of service.
She was a member of the American Institute of Banking. She volunteered her time to many organizations including Lions Clubs, Delaware Hospice, Delaware Organization for the Blind and the YWCA. Ruth enjoyed traveling, gardening, the beach and spending time with her nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Cadia Broadmeadow for their kindness and support.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Ruth's memory to the Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church St., Wilmington DE 19801-4812.
