Age 86, went to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Ruth, who was formerly of Wilmington, had resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Angel Silva before moving to Arbors at New Castle a year ago.
Ruth was a member of the DAV, State Chaplin Unit 3 of Claymont. She was a loving member of the Community Fellowship Church of Wilmington; Ruth daily gained her strength from the Lord, praising him in song along with her favorite gospel group, the Gaither Gospel Singers.
Ruth was deeply loved and will be missed by her family; our peace is in knowing she will spend eternity with the Lord.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Lyle T. Nickels in 1996 and her great granddaughter, Karessa A. Cline in 1999. Survivors include her seven daughters, Rebecca Capano (Mario), Dolores Manista (James), Theresa Silva (Angel), Maria Kempski, Virginia Hobson, Barbara Kempski Otey and Sandra Perez (Orlando); her step-daughter, Brenda Vicars; her brothers, John Thomas and Les Thomas. She is also the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, for whom she spent her pastime crocheting hates, scarves and quilts.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 10th in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. DuPont Pky., New Castle, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The family suggests contributions in Ruth's memory to Community Fellowship Church, Mission Program, 200 Armstrong Ave., Wilmington, DE 19805.
